Robin Piccone revolutionized the swimwear industry with her innovative use of neoprene for BODY GLOVE swimwear in 1986. Inspired by the wetsuits worn by surfers, her sleek body-conscious suits marked a turning point in swimwear design. Piccone’s interpretation of the surfer style created a fashion standard that has been widely imitated throughout the fashion industry. The Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s permanent collection includes two of her neoprene swimsuits. For her achievements in changing the swimwear landscape, Piccone was honored with the California Designer of the Year award.
